Easy to Grow, Hard to Beat - Stokesia laevis

Posted by Emerald Coast Growers on Sep 19th 2025

Stokesia laevis is a rugged, low-maintenance perennial that thrives in a variety of conditions—perfect for both busy growers and new gardeners.

It’s a pollinator magnet! Large, frilly flowers make it a customer favorite too. With its hardy nature and beautiful blooms, it's a reliable seller year after year.

Pictured above:  Stokesia laevis, Wide, cornflower blue blooms.

Mature height 12-18"

Native to southeastern North America, but cold hardy for Zones 5-9, this resilient plant grows in full sun to full shade. Flowers appear from mid-summer to early fall above neat mounds of rich green lance-shaped leaves. Extend the bloom season with regular deadheading.

A delightful option for cut flowers and just right sized for perennial beds and borders, Stokes' asters are drought tolerant, preferring well-draining soil. All varieties are grown in 50-cell trays.
