Native perennial plants are all the rage, and the demand for water-wise, easy-care succulents shows no sign of letting up. Or maybe you're into flowering houseplants. These sizzling sales categories meet beautifully in the genus Lewisia.

Like other American flowering phenomena, Lewisia found UK fame sooner than here at home. It is now celebrated on both continents not just as a sturdy water smart garden inhabitant, but also as a low-maintenance flowering house plant.

Rosette-shaped blooms appear in spring through early summer and are available in various colors. This perennial alpine native, commonly known as Bitterroot, is often used in rock gardens and weel-draining containers. It is a favorite for the Pacific Northwest and an easy-to-grow, evergreen choice for container gardens.

Let's take a look at a lovely little trio of options.

Lewisia xlongipetala 'Little Peach'
