Pennisetum alopecuroides- The Infertile Collection
Posted by Emerald Coast Growers on Aug 21st 2024
These ornamental grasses are specifically bred to be infertile and remove concerns about localized self-sowing. In addition, they also offer vigorous growth and gorgeous extended color from summer to fall. Many of the genera chosen provide strengths that breeding, in turn, enhances.
Pennisetum alopecuroides infertile selections come to us from the innovators at the University of Georgia. We suppose that's why they're cleverly named for foods popular in the South. These handsome, functionally sterile varieties are bred to flower longer and not self-sow.
All five are hardy for Zones 5 - 9.
