Culture 

In tropical climates, Duranta is an evergreen shrub. In mild climates, it dies to the ground and regrows from the roots each season. In most of America, it’s an annual that can be containerized and overwintered indoors in a bright room.

The genus name honors Castore Durante, 16^th century botanist, Italian Renaissance poet, and physician to Pope Sixtus V. The specific epithet means just what it sounds like: Upright.
