Native Sporobolus heterolepis for "Outstanding quality and dependable performance"

Over the delicate grasses
A breath, a spirit passes,
A song, and the odor of bloom—
Give way! Make room!
an excerpt from Dance of the Seasons by Harriet Monroe
The breeze can’t resist gliding gracefully through the fine, hair-like blades of prairie dropseed, sending wafts of fragrance to greet passersby.
Don’t let the common name hit the wrong note. This lovely, self-sufficient native grass is a clump-former, not a vigorous spreader.
Declared a “Plant of Merit” by Missouri Botanical Garden for “outstanding quality and dependable performance,” Sporobolus is widely considered to be among the most attractive native prairie grasses. A natural for meadows, prairie dropseed can also be planted in rows to edge sunny walkways or lanes.
Customers can't resist the graceful arching clumps of slender emerald-green blades topped with airy panicles of coriander-scented pink/tan blooms. The well-mannered foliage turns gold in autumn, then creamy white in winter.
