‘Rubrum’ barely needs an introduction. It’s that gorgeous annual grass you see wherever you go. There it is -- waving its burgundy blades and matching foxtail flowers, it’s the “thriller” in those big containers on Main Street. The Game of the Name

Taxonomists are perpetually in the midst of an identity crisis. ‘Rubrum’ is variously listed as a member of three different species and even two different genera. We consider the one we use, P. xadvena ‘Rubrum’, to be the most correct and up-to-date.
