Gaillardia aristata SpinTop Series

SpinTop varieties feature large, richly hued flowers with toothy-tipped petals from spring to fall. The excellent basal branching habit makes them tight and compact for perfect garden center presentation.

It adds up to handsome, cheerful finished pots that travel smoothly from bench to cart to cash register. And long-flowering performance in the garden encourages repeat sales. All SpinTop varieties stand 12” tall and are hardy in USDA Zones 3 – 10.

The Game of the Name

Gaillardia is one of many American native genera with European names. This one honors Antoine Rene’ Gaillard de Charentonneau, 18th-Century French magistrate and amateur botanist. Plant explorers in the French colonies sent him plants and seeds, which he shared with fellow scientists and enthusiasts.

And if you think his nom is a tongue-twister, hah! You silly English-speaking person! It is but child’s play compared to Auguste Denis Fougeroux de Bondaroy, the plant physiologist who named the genusin Antoine’s honor in 1788.
